My name is Corinne Heavner and I am a D1 manager currently and have been a member of the Quins since 2018.
I am reaching out to ask for some assistance. As you know, the Atlanta Harlequins have been a pillar of women's rugby in the South for over 40 years now. It took a lot of you to make this club what it is today, and to create the space that we have a privilege to play in. I am a very proud member of this team and have you all to thank for that! I am asking if alumni would be willing to come talk to the team in person, on video chat, send video messages or a written letter to the current players. My intention is to give faces and experience to the mindset that I preach to the players. I ask them to respect the jersey and respect the players who came before us by giving everything you have to to give to this team. I truly believe that hearing your stories will be the motivation the team needs to thrive in our upcoming season.
We are a generally young and inexperienced team, whether that be in rugby in general or as a member of the Quins. A lot of the players are not aware of the long and proud history of this club and the blood, sweat and tears that got us here today. I personally would love to get to know you all more and hear your experiences if you have played for the Quins at a time like we are now. We have the numbers to thrive but we are working on building an elite culture which is difficult to conceptualize as a younger team, since we don't get “paid” and we are asking for such a huge commitment. I am trying to get the point across that we do this for the love of the sport, the love of our club, and our love for each other!
I truly hope I hear back from some of you. Please know you are always welcome at practices and of course we hope to see you all at our home games this upcoming season.
