As 2018 comes to a close, I just wanted to share a few stats and thank you all for the hard work you put in, on and off the pitch, repping the crest.
The WPL squad finished in 7th place (up from 9th in 2017) in the league with a 4 and 4 record. Highlights include ending the season with a win over North Shore to secure 7th place, the first ever win against the Twin City Amazons and scoring 320 points across the season, 2nd only to league runner-up Glendale. There are 33 active players for the squad and full rosters were carried into each and every match.
The Deuces currently stand in 1st place in the Carolinas-Georgia Division having amassed 258 points over 4 matches versus 5 allowed. There are 49 active players for the squad.
We had 35 rookies don the red, blue, green and yellow for the first time this season. Several of the new players came from local universities, often coached by former Quin players.
We had 3 Quins called up to represent the USA for the fall tour and have another 2 selected for the NA4 competition in February. 6 more Quins have been selected for the USA Rugby South squad.
We hosted another successful, well-received national event with the October WPL Championship.
All staff coaches are continuing their educations by attending the Women in Rugby Conference in NC this month.
All contracted coaches are currently, or will be within the next month, Level III certified.
As always, there are things to improve upon; there are issues to address; there are conversations to be had. But, it all should start with taking a good look back at where we have come from so we can map out where we want to go next.
Thanks to all who have shown up, all who have led, all who have followed, all who have coached, all who have volunteered, all who have washed jerseys, all who have fed the masses, all who have completed paperwork, all who have RSVP’ed, all who have swept the locker room, all who have pumped up balls, all who have turned out the lights, all who have given rides to the opposition or teammates or refs, all who have hosted, all who have filmed, all who have worked on skills, all who have worked on fitness, all who have encouraged a mate, all who have, even on down days, brought yourselves to the pitch, all who have shown up. Yes, I intentionally circled back around. Your mates appreciate it. The coaches appreciate it. The admins appreciate it. The club cannot function without you.
Individually, we are one drop. Together, we are an ocean.
Here’s to believing and achieving in 2019.
